Drivers and passengers used to be able to check fare rates accross cities on the Uber website. This information was a handy tool when it came to estimating earnings for drivers. The fare rate info now appears to be more difficult to access. It seems like Uber doesn't want this information as readily available to the competition. For drivers, this is definitely annoying. Will we see Lyft do the same thing next?

As far as I know you can still get this info for Lyft, one of the reasons I prefer driving for them... They are more transparent. Then again the two companies tend to do a lot to mimic each other and stay competitive, so we might see the same thing happen at Lyft soon.
