Lyft announced plans to make GM made electric vehicles to its drivers. This will be similar to it's partnership with Hertz, which allows drivers to rent vehicles on a weekly basis. This is a cool way that the partnership between Lyft and GM can benefit drivers and the environment all at the same time. There appear to be a lot of drivers without cars that would like to rent and drive for Lyft. Anyone considering renting an electric vehicle? Anyone rented a vehicle through Lyft from Hertz in Denver, Las Vegas or San Francisco?

It sounds like there is a bit more to this plan. The electric cars are expected to be rolled out by the end of 2016 and in 2017 GM wants to enter the autonomous car market via the Lyft platform. It would be cool to get a ride in a self driving car as a passenger, but as a driver I don't like the thought of being replaced...

I'm taking advantage of the rental program in Detroit and will be picking up my Chevy Equinox this Friday! While it's not an electric car, this program sounds pretty good - they pay insurance, maintenance, and if you complete 50 rides a week, the rent on your vehicle is free! Sounds like a win, win!

Just don't get in an accident with your car. It doesn't matter who is at fault or if it's an "Act of God" accident (a tree branch falls on your windshield during a thunderstorm), they will take the car from you permanently and you will have no way to earn money and you will be responsible for a $1,000 deductible
